Sgt. Jack Stanley Broad (1923 – 1943)
Jack Stanley Broad was born in Malling district during 1923 and was one of five children born to Frederick William Broad and Ida Thompson. Little is known about Jack’s early life and exactly where about he lived, however we do know that in WW2 he joined the Royal Air Force and served with 172 Squadron as 1391508 Sgt. J S Broad. The squadron flew coastal command sorties in Wellington Bombers along the English Channel and around the Bay of Biscay. On 19 September 1943 Jack’s plane failed to return from a training flight and he was subsequently presumed killed.
Jack’s name is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial on Panel 143.
